The Joy of Getting to Know Gilda’s Club

“I’m a 24-year cancer survivor and I love coming to Gilda’s Club.”

“I’m here to learn to make healthy food for my husband who has cancer.”

“My cancer is back… I’m undergoing chemotherapy and I want to know learn what I should be eating.”

“I love coming to yoga and now my son comes with me. Each month when the program calendar, I’m so excited to see the newest classes and activities.”

“We’ve been coming to Gilda’s Club for years and it has totally changed our outlook and perspective.”

“Thank you for offering everything at no cost. It makes all the difference.”

In my first weeks as President and CEO of Gilda’s Club Middle Tennessee (just two short weeks ago), I had the pleasure of meeting so many of our new and long-time members at the Midtown Clubhouse. Above are just a few of the comments that were shared. And every day – typically many times a day – I’ve heard (and continue to hear) peals of laughter coming from our art room, the Coffee Talk group that meets in our upstairs kitchen, and from groups of members casually sharing a snack. It’s been such an honor to meet you all and learn about your journeys. You are such an inspirational and welcoming group!

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve also had the privilege of meeting many of the volunteers who offer their expertise in our support groups, help at our front desk, lead our workshops, and are hard at work planning our upcoming Gilda’s Golf Classic on September 23 and Red Door Bash on October 16. I am awestruck by your commitment to supporting our cancer support community – helping ensure no one has to face cancer alone.

To those I have not yet met (Williamson County: I’m heading your way!), I sincerely hope you will stop by and say hello sometime soon, or join me at one of two upcoming welcome receptions so that we can get acquainted:

  • Wednesday, September 18 from 8 to 10 a.m. in the Midtown Clubhouse – 1707 Division Street, 37203
  • Friday, October 4 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at our Williamson County location – 4588 Carothers Parkway, Suite 250, Franklin 37067

Please RSVP to either reception to Lauren@gildasclubmiddletn.org.

I look forward to meeting you all.
